Résumés
Le poète américain Walt Whitman a fait l’objet d’une appropriation spectaculaire par la propagande soviétique dans les années qui ont suivi la Révolution d’octobre 1917. Les modalités de cette récupération sont variées. Dans un premier temps, il s’agit de sélection, de traduction, d’édition et de diffusion des poèmes dans des supports variés (anthologies révolutionnaires, grands placards ou feuillets). Mais il y va aussi de formes d’agit-prop, installation lors des célébrations d’octobre 1918, pantomime, et surtout mise en scène des poèmes par le Proletkult, dans un spectacle joué à Petrograd puis en tournée. Cette contribution fait une large part à l’examen de ce spectacle et de sa réception. Elle envisage enfin la présence de Whitman dans le cinéma d’Eisenstein et de Vertov. À partir de cette étude de cas se dessinent certains traits de l’agit-prop, entre poésie, théâtre et arts visuels.
The American poet Walt Whitman was very much used by Soviet propaganda in the years following the October Revolution of 1917. The forms of this appropriation were varied. First of all, the poems were selected, translated, published and distributed in various media (revolutionary anthologies, large placards or leaflets). But they were also turned into agitprop material: an installation during the celebrations of October 1918, a pantomime, and especially the staging of poems by the Proletkult in a show first performed in Petrograd and then on tour. This article focuses on this show and its reception. It also considers the presence of Whitman in the films of Eisenstein and Vertov. This case study reveals some features of agitprop going from poetry to theatre and the visual arts.
Американский поэт Уолт Уитмен очень активно использовался советской пропагандой в годы, последовавшие за Октябрьской революцией 1917 года. Формы этого присвоения были разнообразны. Прежде всего, его стихи отбирались, переводились, издавались и распространялись в различных форматах (революционные антологии, большие плакаты и листовки). Но оно также включало в себя агитпроп, инсталляции во время празднования годовщины Октябрьской революции, пантомиму и инсценировку стихов Пролеткультом в виде спектакля, показанного в Петрограде и затем гастролировавшего по стране. Статья посвящена этому спектаклю и его рецепции. В ней также рассматривается присутствие Уитмена в фильмах Эйзенштейна и Вертова. Это тематическое исследование раскрывает некоторые черты агитпропа, общие для поэзии, театра и изобразительного искусства.
