Le tableau de Chaïm Soutine Éva a été l’un des symboles phares du mouvement de contestation mené contre le régime autoritaire d’Aleksandr Loukachenko au Bélarus à l’été 2020. Comment le phénomène « Éva » peut-il être expliqué ? Son ascension est-elle due à un « enchaînement de circonstances aléatoires » (Konstantin Melman) ou possède-t-elle une signification plus profonde, reflétant la nouvelle conscience de soi des femmes au Bélarus, qui ont joué un rôle primordial au sein des mouvements de contestation et ne sont plus disposées à s’accommoder de la dictature néo-soviétique sexiste de Loukachenko (Olga Chparaga) ? Et de quelle manière la perception de Soutine au Bélarus a-t-elle été influencée par « Éva » et ses aventures ? Ces questions se trouvent au centre de l’attention de notre étude, qui est fondée principalement sur des entretiens menés avec des participants et des témoins directs des évènements, ainsi que sur des publications issues de la presse biélorusse et étrangère.
C. Soutine’s Painting “Eva” became one of the Key Symbols of the Protest Movement Against the Authoritarian Regime of Aleksandr Lukashenko in Belarus in Summer 2020. How can the “Eva” phenomenon be explained? Is its rise due to a “random chain of circumstances” (Konstantin Melman) or does it have a deeper meaning, reflecting the new self-awareness of women in Belarus, who played a leading role in the protest movements and are no longer willing to put up with Lukashenko’s sexist neo-Soviet dictatorship (Olga Chparaga)? And how was the perception of Chaïm Soutine in Belarus influenced by “Eva” and her adventures? These questions are the focus of our study, which is based mainly on interviews with participants and direct witnesses of the events, as well as on publications from the Belarusian and foreign press.
Протесты в Беларуси в августе 2020 года породили большое количество эмблем, символов, мемов и т.д. Одним из первых прообразов множества интерпретаций неожиданно стала картина Хаима Сутина «Ева». Написанная выходцем из белорусского штетла Смиловичи картина и известная в Беларуси только узкому кругу специалистов. В 2013 году картину приобрел «Белгазпромбанк» в свою частную корпоративную коллекцию в рамках программы «Парижская школа уроженцев Беларуси». Инициатором формирования коллекции был один из кандидатов в президенты Республики Беларусь на выборах 2020 года Виктор Бабарико. После его ареста и ареста коллекции именно с изображением «Евы» люди вышли на улицы, был проведен ряд перформансов и т.д. Картина «Ева» стала символом мирного протеста, символом солидарности против насилия, частью поп-культуры.
