    Dans la plupart des Églises chrétiennes, les processus de canonisation s’avèrent lents et complexes, ce qui entraîne des attentes parfois considérables, et des causes qui n’aboutissent pas toujours. Parmi ces figures de sainteté de l’orthodoxie russe toujours « en attente », deux personnalités ont retenu notre attention : les prêtres Paul Florenski (1882-1937) et Alexandre Men (1935-1990). Intellectuels considérés comme géniaux de leur temps, ayant servi leur Église de toutes leurs forces et fini leur vie par le martyre, révérés par une partie des croyants, ils ont néanmoins semblé insuffisamment « politiquement corrects » pour être portés sur les autels. Aux critères traditionnels de reconnaissance de la sainteté dans l’Église orthodoxe (vie, miracles, reliques, vénération populaire), faut-il ajouter celui de l’opportunité ?

    In most Christian churches, canonisation processes are lengthy and complex. This leads to great expectations that are not always met. Among the saintly figures of Russian Orthodoxy who are still awaiting canonisation, two have attracted our attention: the priests Pavel Florensky (1882-1937) and Alexander Men (1935-1990). They were considered brilliant intellectuals of their time, serving their Church with all their might and ending their lives in martyrdom. Although revered by some believers, they did not seem to be “politically correct” enough to be elevated to the altars. Should we add to the traditional criteria for the recognition of sainthood in the Orthodox Church (life, miracles, relics, popular veneration) the criterion of opportunity?

    В большинстве христианских церквей процессы канонизации идут медленно и сложно. И ожидания не всегда оправдываются. Среди деятелей русского православия, которые до сих пор «ждут» признания святости, две личности привлекли наше внимание: священники Павел Флоренский (1882-1937) и Александр Мень (1935-1990). Они считаются блестящими интеллектуалами своего времени, служили Церкви всеми силами и завершили свой жизненный путь мученической смертью; ряд верующих почитают их святыми. Однако эти личности до сих пор не были признаны достаточно «политкорректными», чтобы быть официально канонизированными Церковью. Следует ли добавить к традиционным критериям признания святости в Православной Церкви (житиe, чудеса, мощи, народное почитание) критерий актуальности?
