Abstracts
Cet article étudie l’un des aspects de ce phénomène qu’on appellera plus tard nihilisme – le voltairianisme russe. Il n’a plus grand-chose à voir avec Voltaire, qui prônait la tolérance et avait déterminé les premières manifestations de libre pensée, dans la Russie du xviiie siècle. Se fondant sur une vague représentation de cet auteur comme contestant les croyances et les valeurs morales établies, ce terme en vint à désigner l’athéisme dans ses manifestations radicales, qui pouvaient mener de jeunes héros du temps jusqu’au suicide. L’indifférence religieuse conduisant à une dégénérescence morale, tel est le souvenir que laissera dans la culture russe le « voltairianisme » caractéristique du xviiie siècle.
The article examines an aspect of the phenomenon that would later be termed nihilism–Russian Voltairianism. Although it no longer has much to do with Voltaire, who advocated tolerance and pioneered the first manifestations of free thought in 18th-century Russia, this term evolved based on a vague perception of Voltaire as someone who challenged established beliefs and moral values. Consequently, it came to signify atheism in its most radical forms, which could even drive the young heroes of the time to commit suicide. The idea that religious indifference leads to moral degeneration is the legacy that 18th-century “Voltairianism” left in Russian culture.
В этой статье рассматривается один из аспектов того, что впоследствии станет известно как нигилизм – русское вольтерианство. Он уже не имеет особого отношения к Вольтеру, который выступал за терпимость и определял первые проявления свободной мысли в России xviii века. Исходя из смутного представления об этом авторе как о человеке, бросающем вызов устоявшимся верованиям и моральным ценностям, термин стал обозначать атеизм в его радикальных проявлениях, способный довести молодых героев того времени до самоубийства. Религиозный индифферентизм, ведущий к нравственному вырождению: таким запомнилось "вольтерьянство" xviii века в русской культуре.
