This article starts from the fact that in spite of the proclaimed death of Russian literaturo-centrism, several Russian novels of the last decade deal with the questions of literary heritage and the relationship between literature and power. A comparison whith recent French novels dealing with literature allows to enlighten the Russian specificity. In The Librarian by Elizarov, GenAcid and VITCH by Benigsen and IKS by Bykov, the authors use grotesque or fantastic devices to revisit Russian literary heritage and/or to depict its misappropriation, Return to Egypt by Sharov and Translating from a word-for-word translation by Chizhov (an English title could be The Tyrant’s translator) stand out among others. A more detailed analysis of Chizhov’s novel shows how it revives the figures of the poet and the tyrant by locating the action in the fictitious State of Koshtyrbastan, which is at the same time the opposite of Russia and it’s mirror.
