The attention paid to the LGBTQI archives invites us to rethink the construction of a visual history of gender minorities. In this study, the art of the queer archive allows us to envisage the way in which artists and activists have taken over these genealogies, through the creation of fictional stories and the exhibition of objects emanating from the lives of struggle, suffering and pleasure. This historical panorama of the last forty years takes as its starting point the cultural and visual turning point of the end of the 20th century, with the archiving of public actions carried out by the collective of artists fighting against AIDS. Through their installations, photographs and performances, the artists question the historical construction of gender identities, in order to reveal the unthought aspects of homosexuality and requalify the official history of LGBT struggles. Different postures from artist to archivist, historian, curator or collector will be analyzed through the representations of the stigmatization of homosexuality and the fictions of repressed sexual subjectivities (Gran Fury and Group Material, John Button and Mario Dubsky, Guy Hocquenghem and Lionel Soukaz, Henrik Olesen, Fred Wilson, Simon Fujiwara, Sébastien Lifshitz, Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, Zoe Leonard and Cheryl Dunye, Glenn Ligon, Reina Gossett and Sasha Wortzel). Ultimate artistic posture, the artistic performance confirms the role of non-normative sexualities and transidentities in the construction of a queer genealogy of art.

Sociocriticism and cultural studies come at a time in the twentieth century that concerns about the complex nature of literary discourse joins concerns over the methodologies involved in its analysis and the social character of such undisputed. Both strands emerge on a clear Marxist sociological and soon made him the object of knowledge of both literary discourse and other types of discourse. If the face of methodological plurality of the moment sociocritical bid to find their own way hermeneutics, cultural studies claim, at an advanced stage, its “antidisciplinar” or “adisciplinar”, which frequently results in an eclectic methodological especially visible in Latin America since the eighties, if the concept expands sociocriticism beyond the purely linguistic to receive, for example, iconic discourses, cultural studies extend knowledge of its purposes the term “culture” ends up being equivalent of all or nothing, depending on how you look.
