      <link>https://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/slavicaoccitania/5198</link>
This article examines several censorship cases from the 2000s: the prosecution brought against the works by Bayan Shiryanov and Ilya Masodov initiated by Mikhail Lesin, then head of the Ministry of Press, Broadcasting, and Mass Communications; the lawsuits filed against the books of Bayan Shiryanov and Vladimir Sorokin at the instigation of the organization Idushchie vmeste (“Walking Together”); and, finally, the destruction of Ilia Kormiltsev’s publishing projects through the combined efforts of various state repressive agencies. Although these cases clearly demonstrate a gradual shift from private censorship initiatives undertaken by “vigilant citizens” to the development—within state institutions—of systematic methods for suppressing undesirable literature, literary communities tend to perceive them merely as curious exceptions, assuming themselves to be invisible to the authorities. Drawing on Robert Darnton and applying an ethnographic approach to the phenomenon of censorship, the article explores how the factors that have shaped the literary field of post-Soviet Russia (modes of group interaction, regimes of publicity, regimes of reading and writing) interact with the political forces and dynamics of early Putinism, thereby generating, from within the system itself, this “effect of invisibility.” </description>
