      <link>http://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/reflexos/189</link>
This article aims to reflect upon three of the main institutions of the Portuguese Crown - the Indian Council (1604-1614), the Overseas Council (1642-1832) and the Secretariat of State of the Navy and Overseas (from 1736 onwards) - which were responsible for the circulation of knowledge and information between the kingdom and the conquests, and vice-versa. In a second moment, it will deal with the circulation of royal officials - governors and magistrates - both in the Atlantic and in the distant hinterlands of America, producing knowledge and spreading useful know-how for the maintenance of Portugal's maritime and territorial empire. Many of these men were later incorporated into the courts and secretariats in the Kingdom responsible for colonial affairs. </description>
