      <link>http://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/reflexos/511</link>
A prolific novelist and the creator of La Comédie Humaine, Honoré de Balzac exerted a lasting influence on major Portuguese novelists from the nineteenth century onwards. In the first half of the twentieth century, Joaquim Paço d’Arcos, through the six novels that make up the cycle Crónica da vida lisboeta, emerges as an original disciple of the French master. However, his admiration for Balzac by no means entails a servile imitation; on the contrary, it gives rise to a creative reappropriation. Focusing primarily on the themes of love and money, this study seeks to determine the true extent of Joaquim Paço d’Arcos’s debt to La Comédie Humaine, understood as a hypotext, and to identify, in relation to the Balzacian model, the elements of alterity and originality that characterise Crónica da vida lisboeta, conceived as a hypertext. </description>
