Ressentisme

This paper deals with the meaning and the genealogy of the French word “ressenti” (“feeling”), that is more and more used in Postmodern societies and invades the reception of works by replacing every other possible word proper to describe our relationship with artistic creation. What we call “ressentisme” (“ideology of feeling”) is the result of the subjectivist et metaphysical tyranny of the personal emotions, prohibiting or ending to every rational and inter-subjective dialogue with the works and the other members of a public. Individual emotions are important but too many confusions linked to the contemporary relativism (for instance between emotion, feeling, opinion, idea and thought) must be criticized, since we need a rich and nuanced language in order to develop a dialogic relationship with the arts and an aesthetic and political approach of their effects.

Approches esthético-politiques /approches sociologiques

This paper promotes the distinction between the aesthetic and political approaches of art and the sociological ones. It examines the powers and seductions of sociology in the postmodern context, but also its epistemic limits when it deals with apprehending objects like artistic productions and dreams, especially since its scientific postulates, methods and terminology are particularly invasive today. We intend to review L’Interprétation sociologique des rêves by Bernard Lahire and re-define the complex objects (actings and productions) which are often quite different from the existing situation. Consequently, they cannot be reduced to their mere social determinations. That is why we invite the researchers in art (and artists) to work in a genuine inter-disciplinary way.
