This article deals with the game all’improvizzo – a technique of theatrical game inherited from the Italian commedia dell’arte – revisited by two contemporary theater companies, the Company The brief Life and the Company The Dogs of Navarre. We will show how these companies take up with the tradition of the commedia dell’arte by placing in the center of their process of creation and representation the game all’improvizzo. This game does not design the improvised game but the “game in the impromptu”. Our subject aims at analyzing the links between the game all’improvizzo, the writing of stage and the performative game. Should we consider the game all’improvizzo as a way to build contemporary forms of popular theater ?
