      <link>http://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/nacelles/485</link>
The publication of De Revolutionibus in 1543 is considered as a major break in the history of astronomy, marking the beginning of the Copernican revolution. But the Copernicus’ heliocentric model was still largely dependent on the scholastic paradigm, with a cosmos inherited from ancient knowledge: a closed and limited milieu located beyond the orb of the Moon, made and filled with ether. It was only Tycho Brahe’s and Galileo’s astronomical observations that challenged these old conceptions of the supralunar world. New theories then emerged, and scholars confronted with each other about the nature of this interplanetary space: for some of them, known as “the vacuists”, it was totally empty; for some others, the so-called “etherians”, it was filled with swirls, made of subtle matter… And what about the force of gravitation, the propagation of light and sound in interplanetary space? </description>
