      <link>http://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/nacelles/455</link>
Throughout the early-modern era, the conceptualization of the solar system as a coherent epistemological entity has been based on precise observations of the planets and the measurement of their distances and movements. This article explores these two empirical pathways that helped to shape the solar system. The instrumental breakthrough introduced by the telescope in the 17th century was initially intended to support the heliocentric design of the solar system. Subsequently, it is a kind of “natural history” of the sky that served as a framework for interpretation of observations. Indeed, the measurements of the universe are first of all a way for Kepler to seek celestial harmony, but this requirement of the Renaissance gradually disappears in favour of an exploration of the solar system, considered as a field of experimentation. </description>
