From 1987 to 2020, the Inventaire general of Franche‑Comté, a state service transferred to the Region in 2004, carried out an in‑depth study of industrial heritage. The results of the survey of the industrial heritage, published on the Region’s Website patrimoine.bourgognefranchecomte.fr and in a summary book: Franche‑Comté : terre d’industrie & de patrimoine (Lyon, Lieux dits ed., 2021), confirm – if confirmation were needed – that Franche‑Comté is not a land of aeronautics, despite the research of Étienne Oehmichen and Rossel‑Peugeot. But by taking stock of the region’s watchmaking history, they underline the links forged between the actors in this industrial field (manufacturers and control bodies) and aircraft manufacturers, opening up exciting new avenues of research.

If aviation in Toulouse is both part of the city’s history and its current economic position, can we infer that Toulouse residents consider aviation to be part of their heritage? We surveyed the perceptions of aviation among Toulouse residents to understand which aspects of this field are considered heritage by the general public and professionals in the sector, and what role civil society should play in discussions about the future of aviation. The results of this research show that while aviation is perceived as an identity element of the city, there is currently no recognized and shared process of heritage recognition. Furthermore, there are differences in perception regarding the role of citizen participation in co‑constructing the aviation of the future: professionals are cautious, while citizens would be inclined to participate in discussions.

The aim of this article is to address the issue of representation of female employees within the Airbus company, in particular with regard to the careers of female executives, for which the organization has go into implementation of a policy of professional equality between women and men. It is indeed a question of understanding how and in what way this desire for feminization of the workforce is anchored in a more global logic of reform, restructuring and reorganization of work, in connection with the historical reconfigurations of the industrial strategy initiated these twenty last years. As a result, Airbus presents a singularity and originality in the process of setting the agenda for professional equality between women and men, through industrial and organizational innovations, but also social and cultural innovations, which are related according to their temporalities.

Aluminium is omnipresent around us. Its presence in our daily lives should not make us forget that it is also part of our heritage. The properties that characterize it: lightness, corrosion resistance have ensured its industrial success, but others, such as its ability to recycle, have led to the disappearance of many witnesses to the technological evolution of the metal. Through the examination of a number of heritage objects, in particular in the aeronautics sector, this article aims to identify the achievements but also the gaps in historical knowledge of the metal and its alloys. The forms of corrosion to which these materials are subject are in some cases relatively well known, while in others they are still poorly controlled. The lack of knowledge about the nature of aluminium objects and their state of conservation makes any diagnosis difficult, thus jeopardizing the long-term conservation of the associated objects. Proposals are being made to remedy this situation.

From 1945 to 1966, the evolution of the French Air Force largely depends on technological innovations. The aim of this thesis is to analyze how it became able – both technologically and structurally – to pass from a situation in which it was considered as an old-fashioned entity to the head of the national defense system, thus establishing itself as the third Air Force power. To do so, we identify three essential periods, which illustrate its shift to develop progressively its technological expertise. From 1945 to 1950, it meets several challenges such as technological transfers and jet-powered planes in the early years of the Cold War. From 1951 until 1958, it follows a fast modernization trend in spite of the Colonial Wars, as depicted through the development of aeronautical programs and the use of missiles, in a context of American Help. From 1959 to 1966, the French Air Force then adapts to both nuclear-based weapons and strategies, such as piloted strategic armament systems Mirage IV and structural transfers taken out of the military command integrated by NATO.
