The play Ultima violenza, the artistic testament of Sicilian playwright Giuseppe Fava, who was tragically murdered by the mafia in 1984, was translated and adapted for performance in French courts four years after his death. Through extensive research and direct testimonies from directors Pascal Papini and Louis Beyler, this study delves into the French adaptation of the text, reconstructs the mise-en-scène, and evaluates the critical reception. A comparative analysis of the two distinct productions reveals the cultural divergences between the two countries while simultaneously underscoring the shared necessity of theatre’s political function.

In 1608, Jacques de Fonteny, a scholar and influential member of the Confrères de la Passion, “soi-disant contrôleur des comédiens” at the Hôtel de Bourgogne Theatre, translated the just published Bravure del Capitan Spavento by the Gelosi actor Francesco Andreini (Venice, 1607). As a shrewd opportunist, he used this translation to get Charles d’Angennes’s protection and privileges, including a reserved theatre box at the Hôtel de Bourgogne. His translation appears to be part of a political and personal strategy, at the heart of the 1608 controversy between Austoni’s Accesi troupe and the Parisian confraternity. The article examines the periode from 1600 to 1629, the last year De Fonteny was active within the Confraternity.

Rivolta o compromesso? This contribution intends to compare two very different theatrical texts that investigate, with different techniques and aesthetics, the subject of the economic and social crisis: Ce ne andiamo per non darvi altre preoccupazioni (We're leaving so as not to give you any more worries) by Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini, and Fuori gioco (Out of the Game) by Lisa Nur Sultan. The common theme – a story of a suicide – is only the starting point for a broader discourse on possible attitudes in front of a crisis: renunciation or acceptance? Revolt or compromise?
