In 1563, the Venetian printer Gabriel Giolito de’ Ferrari and the notorious humanist Tommaso Porcacchi launched the first genuine European editorial series. This new product, entitled «Collana historica», gathered together a consistent body of works by Grecian historians and contemporary specialists of history. The article addresses this event, essentially by concentrating on the dedicatory letters to be found in the various volumes that dwell on the designs of the project and on the preparatory work. I also put forward a new reconstitution of the project that, even though it remains materially incomplete, can be reconstituted through various sources.

The article introduces eight essays, later collected in a volume entitled: XVIth century Italian and Venetian printed works in the Rare Book Collection. The collection consists of eight bibliographical, philological and literary studies of eight volumes from the XVth and XVIth centuries, stored in the library of the University of Quebec (UQAM), in Montreal. The works range from poetry and historiography to mythology and theology and also translation of ancient works. The Canadian collection aims to illustrate the combined development of art, technique and ideas during the Italian Humanistic Age. The collection demonstrates not only how literary works of the time were intertwined, but also its subsequent impact on Quebec entering the modern age.
