Highlighting the centrality of translation as a tool for conveying ideas and worldviews, crucial in intercultural exchange, the article underscores the imbalances in cultural exchanges between France and Italy during the Renaissance. Moreover, it focuses on two prominent printers of the city of Ferrara: Vittorio Baldini and Benedetto Mammarello, who both printed translations of Montaigne’s works. These printers, along with some translators like Girolamo Naselli and Ercole Cato, played a fundamental role in disseminating French literature in Italy, further strengthening the bond between French and Italian culture.

The importation of the French serial novel into Italy in the 19th century is a significant phenomenon that highlights the substantial influence of French literature on the Italian literary scene. Italy, considered a “literary periphery”, imported many French works, often translated at a lower cost compared to local production. Italian publishers, such as Sonzogno, saw this as an economic opportunity. The serial novel, published in installments in newspapers, democratized reading and built reader loyalty. Italian authors like Francesco Mastriani and Carolina Invernizio were inspired by French models, adapting them to the Italian reality and contributing to the genre’s spread.

The article introduces eight essays, later collected in a volume entitled: XVIth century Italian and Venetian printed works in the Rare Book Collection. The collection consists of eight bibliographical, philological and literary studies of eight volumes from the XVth and XVIth centuries, stored in the library of the University of Quebec (UQAM), in Montreal. The works range from poetry and historiography to mythology and theology and also translation of ancient works. The Canadian collection aims to illustrate the combined development of art, technique and ideas during the Italian Humanistic Age. The collection demonstrates not only how literary works of the time were intertwined, but also its subsequent impact on Quebec entering the modern age.

Elvira Dones, Ornela Vorpsi and Anilda Ibrahimi are the three Albanese female novelists who represent women’s migration in Italian literature. Whereas the first works of these three authors are autobiographical, their later publications are devoted to the theme of migration, developed according to various paradigms. What is brought to the fore in these first works is the confrontation of the writer with her past in Albany. In the following works, new characters take shape in the wake of her own experience, new stories and situations are built up, talking place in the post-diaspora period and leaving behind any connections with the past. The present paper investigates the evolution of the sense of place as applied both to the notion of residence and to an unknown territory whose appeal ultimately gives birth to writing.

Nicolai Lilin is a young novelist born in Transnistria in 1980 who lives in Italy at the present time. His first novel, Educazione siberiana (2009), a kind of transfigured autobiography, has been the subject of lively debate about the supposed « lies » of the writer. However, the transfiguration of the reality is an integral part of literary writing, as Bakhtin says: in this specific case, the author chooses the language of his adopted country, the Italian, in order to introduce the reader to his original community values. Through his literary works, the author defends his land, Siberia, that has been transformed by Soviet Union in a concentration camp and in primary source of raw materials. At the same time, Lilin’s novels are the expression of a crisis of presence (according to De Martino’s theory of ethnology) within a subject who deeply feels the loss of culture; on the other hand, they point out the necessity of protecting the natural world (Siberian taiga as metonymy of the entire Earth) within which every human being must give up his dominant et destructive role.
