“Translating Fuorigioco: creating turmoil in language” is a reflection on the French translation of Lisa Nur Sultan's piece Fuorigioco/Hors-jeu. Translation creates crisis in language, by definition, forcing the translator to recreate in the target language a signifier system that attempts to reproduce a ‘signified’ as similar as possible to that in the source language. The criterion for the validity of this equivalence in the new language is the ability to resolve the initial crisis of expression in which the translator first finds himself. To do so, he must succeed in creating a new text in his own language in which the original meaning can come alive and be vibrant again, in other words, he must create ‘turmoil’ in his own language. This is most critical in theatrical translation. Theatre relies on a fragile illusion of truth, rendered even more fragile by the fact when a play is translated the characters express themselves in a language that is not their ‘own’. This means that the audience has to enter into a pact of « ‘translatory fiction’. To conclude, recreating the text in a new language obliges the translator to resort to adaptation; he must pay great attention to rhythm and be inventive, also in transposing words that can be defined as ‘iconic’. The term ‘iconic’ refers to words with a whole world of meaning, that have an immediate and transversal effectiveness within a linguistic group.

Elvira Dones, Ornela Vorpsi and Anilda Ibrahimi are the three Albanese female novelists who represent women’s migration in Italian literature. Whereas the first works of these three authors are autobiographical, their later publications are devoted to the theme of migration, developed according to various paradigms. What is brought to the fore in these first works is the confrontation of the writer with her past in Albany. In the following works, new characters take shape in the wake of her own experience, new stories and situations are built up, talking place in the post-diaspora period and leaving behind any connections with the past. The present paper investigates the evolution of the sense of place as applied both to the notion of residence and to an unknown territory whose appeal ultimately gives birth to writing.

La metà dell’essere

L’articolo è un commento e omaggio alla poesia di Flavio Ermini e in particolare all’edizione bilingue di Poema n.10 Tra Pensiero, traduzione di François Bruzzo e prefazione di Franc Ducros (Plis de pensées, Nîmes, Lucie Éditions, 2007). Una riflessione su quell’oscuro poetico che « affiora sempre fra la percezione e l’essere, il nome e la cosa nominata. This article is both a commentary on, and a homage paid to the poetry of Flavio Ermini, and especially to the bilingual edition of Poema no.10, Tra Pensiero, translated into French by François Bruzzo, foreword by Franc Ducros (Plis de Pensée, Nîmes, France, published by Lucie Editions 2007). The article consists in a reflection on the poem's darkness and the way it « always hovers between perceiving and being, between the name itself and the named object ».
