Insieme ai loro studenti, hanno prodotto diversi dizionari e grammatiche, come la Grammatica Latina di padre M. Álvares con esempi in latino, portoghese e giapponese. In questo articolo, intendiamo esplorare le ragioni e le circostanze che favorirono un particolare sviluppo nel campo della linguistica tra i Gesuiti, così come gli obiettivi che animarono il loro investimento nella lessicologia e nella grammatica. The Jesuits and their missionary objectives have done an important work in the field of grammar and lexicology, both in the study of European languages and previously unknown languages. Together with their students, they have produced several dictionaries and grammars, such as Father M. Álvares’ Grammatica Latina with examples in Latin, Portuguese and Japanese.
