One of the main questions that the translation of a heterolingual literary text can raise is its transposition from a source language to a target language due to its linguistic heterogeneity. This contribution aims to share our vision and our translation position with regard to a novel in a heterolingual situation, Les Temps noirs by Abdelhak Serhane. We therefore propose to expose the linguistic characteristics of the heterolingual literary writing of this novel and then address the delicate problem of the act of translating a heterolingual text into the Arabic language. To this end, we will take as a concrete example the translation of onomastics as an element revealing the heterolingualism of the text. Our objective is to present our translation approach to resist the erasure of the marks of literary heterolingualism when passing from French language to Arabic language.

La traduction est-elle une femme comme les autres ? – ou à quoi servent les études de genre en traduction ?

The focus of feminist and gender studies on the relationships of power at work within patriarchal society makes it a fertile ground of investigation for translation studies. This article thus examines translation (as process and as text) through the lens of feminist and gender studies in order to assess the gendered power relations at work between source and target texts and as a means to question and reverse these power relations. Feminist and gender studies thus attempt to identify the signs of patriarchy within the texts and their translation(s), to rediscover and publicize/publish previously untranslated texts, and to translated feminist and experimental writing, using non-conventional translation strategies.
