Les traducteurs-dialoguistes, également dénommés adaptateurs, sont fort souvent méconnus, crédités furtivement en toute fin de générique. Cet article présente trois d’entre eux, Georges Dutter et Anne Dutter-Domela tout d’abord, puis Jacqueline Cohen, qui ont traduit les films de Woody Allen pour leur sous-titrage et doublage en français pendant plus de vingt-cinq ans, jusqu’en 2012. Leur remarquable longévité dans la profession tout comme dans l’accompagnement de la carrière internationale du cinéaste américain permet d’identifier dans leurs travaux de réels habitus, inscrits dans le cadre d’un projet traductif assumé comme tel. Ils témoignent aussi d’une tradition de l’adaptation liée à l’essor du cinéma américain dans l’aire francophone, et de pratiques désormais en forte évolution. Audiovisual translation has often been decried but is essential to film broadcasting and, consequently, its mere existence. Dialogue translators, recognized in France as adapters, are often underestimated, their names appearing furtively at the very end of credit titles. This article introduces three of them, Georges Dutter and Anne Dutter-Domela first, then Jacqueline Cohen, who translated Woody Allen’s dialogues for subtitling and dubbing in France for more than twenty-five years, up to 2012. Their outstanding permanence in their trade as well as in the accompaniment of the American cinematographer’s international career reveals true habitus in their works, within the frame of a very consciously assumed translation project.
