      <link>http://interfas.univ-tlse2.fr/kairos/164</link>
Whatever Henri Maldiney may say, Schelling’s conception of tragedy (the affirmation of a freedom doomed to failure, thereby testifying to the greatness of its agent) is not that of Sophocles. That Oedipus was &quot;doomed to mate with his mother&quot; by virtue of an oracle and therefore that an oracular word is destiny, this conception stems from translations, inherited from a tradition that is not destiny. An oracle &quot;warns&quot;. If we understand the words addressed to Oedipus as a warning, then it is also possible for us to follow the path of Oedipus, and of any human being in a similar situation, as a succession of choices, on the part of the character, misunderstood, poorly seen because of his claim to be the sole master of what happens to him. </description>
