Une certaine presse sut se montrer féroce à l’égard de Nicolas Roerich et de ses entreprises. Ainsi en 1928 un article imprécateur, mais au demeurant fort bien renseigné, dénonça l’artiste comme un rouage important du complot judéo-maçonnique, bolchevique et théosophique. Paru dans Dvuglavyj Orel [L’Aigle à deux têtes], une revue publiée par des monarchistes russes en exil, ce texte trouva aussitôt écho dans la Revue internationale des sociétés secrètes, périodique conservateur, nationaliste et catholique français qui partageait une même obsession pour le péril maçonnique, juif, communiste et occultiste. Si pour les adeptes de l’Agni Yoga, le prestige du secret valait reconnaissance d’autorité spirituelle, pour d’autres gagnés, ici et là, par une inquiétante paranoïa collective, ce secret dont Roerich et sa femme entendaient se parer ne faisait qu’accréditer l’existence du « Pouvoir occulte mondial ».
There was a certain press that proved to be virulent towards Nicolas Roerich and his undertakings. In 1928, an imprecatory albeit well-informed article denounced the artist as having played an important part in the Judeo-masonic, Bolshevik and Theosophical conspiracy. The text appeared in Dvuglavyj Orel [The Eagle With Two heads], a journal which was published by Russian monarchists in exile and received acclaim in the Revue internationale des sociétés secrètes, a conservative, nationalistic and Catholic French review, which shared a same obsession with the masonic, Jewish, communist and occultist peril. If in the case of the Agni Yoga adepts the prestige of secrecy constituted an acknowledgement of spiritual authority, in the case of others, who were won over, here and there, by some worrying collective paranoia, the secret which Roerich and his wife like to surround themselves with simply corroborated the existence of the “worldwide occult Power”.
Некоторые периодические издания демонстрировали крайнюю беспощадность по отношению к Николаю Рериху и его деятельности. Так в 1928 году появляется статья, проклинающая Рериха, автор которой, впрочем, опирается на достоверные сведения. Художник изобличается в ней как передаточное звено крупного жидомасонского, большевистского и теософского заговора. Статья была напечатана в журнале «Двуглавый орёл», органе русских монархистов в изгнании. Она была подхвачена Revue internationale des sociétés secrètes, журналом французских консерваторов, националистов и католиков, также маниакально боявшихся масонского, еврейского, коммунистического и оккультного заговора. Если для сторонников Агни-Йоги атмосфера секретности способствовала признанию духовной власти, то для иных подверженных опасной коллективной паранойе эта секретность, с помощью которой Рерих и его жена стремились себя возвысить и защитить, только лишний раз подтверждала существование «тайной мировой власти».
