Lancé sur les routes à l’âge de vingt-deux ans, Vassili Barski (1701-1747) est un pèlerin exceptionnel pour lequel curiosité encyclopédique et dévotion à toute épreuve ne sont pas contradictoires. Son périple de près d’un quart de siècle le conduira sur les rivages de la Méditerranée à travers les lieux saints, les déserts et les grandes cités du Proche-Orient, jusqu’à l’épanouissement de sa double vocation de moine érudit.
Setting out on the road at the age of twenty-two, Vasilij Barskij (1701-1747) was an exceptional pilgrim for whom an encyclopaedic curiosity and an unfailing devotion were not contradictions. His travels of almost a quarter century took him to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, through holy sites, deserts and to the great cities of the near east, until the florescence of his second vocation, that of a scholarly monk.
Василий Барский (1701-1747), отправившийся странствовать в двадцать два года, паломник исключительный, из-за его энциклопедической любознательности и стойкого благочестия, причём эти два качества вовсе не противоречат друг другу. Его странствования, продлившиеся почти четверть века, приведут его на берега Средиземного моря по святым местам, через пустыни и большие города Ближнего Востока к полному расцвету его двойного призвания: монаха и эрудита.
